Congressman Gary Miller Awarded Top Honor from the American Highway Users Alliance

Bipartisan million member organization gives Miller 100% score for transportation related legislation

(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) – Continuing the momentum, the Gary Miller campaign received great news today in the form of recognition for Congressman Miller’s work to bring all sides together on transportation projects to assist San Bernardino County.

“Thank you for constantly voting in the interest of the motoring public and our economy,” said Gregory Cohen, President and CEO of the AHUA. “Our members represent millions of individual motorists, as well as truckers, bus companies, RVers, motorcyclists, businesses that pay the user fees that fund the Highway Trust Fund and I are delighted to thank you for achieving 100% score on the American Users Alliance 2012 Scorecard.”

The American Highway Users Alliance is a national non-profit coalition that advocates on behalf of the motoring public. Each October, the AHUA releases its scorecard to all members of Congress.

Congressman Miller is being recognized for his critical assistance to secure $443 million in TIFIA assistance to the San Bernardino Associated Governments. This assistance provides federal credit assistance for surface transportation projects. Gary Miller is also being honored for his work on federal transportation projects to ease congestion, create working class jobs and maximize the shipment of goods for businesses in the Inland Empire.

“During my time as a representative of San Bernardino County, I am proud to have brought hundreds of millions in federal transportation funding back to the Inland Empire,” noted Congressman Miller on receiving the honor. “As a senior member of the House Transportation Committee, I have teamed up with members on both sides of aisles to make sure our region has the best highways and freeways, to improve our regions economy and create new jobs. I look forward to continuing to represent an area that has been a part of my life for over 40 years.”

Congressman Gary Miller has a long history of working on transportation projects for the Inland Empire. This year, Congressman Gary Miller authored language to streamline regulations that were included in this year’s transportation reauthorization law.  This streamlining of the review process will help move forward important infrastructure projects that improve the movement of goods throughout the Inland Empire, relieve congestion on our crowded highways, and promote the creation of good-paying jobs.

In his 14 years as a Congressman representing San Bernardino County, Congressman Miller has worked with all sides to bring federal transportation funding to the region. In 1998 and 2005, he worked tirelessly to get $195 million designated to the ACE Project in both the TEA-21 Surface Transportation Authorization Bill and the SAFE TEA-LU bills.

The ACE project consists of multiple construction projects including safety and mobility upgrades, as well as train traffic improvements through the Inland Valley specifically to assist the distribution of goods through the ACE corridor from the ports to Colton Crossing.

In February of 2011, Congressman Gary Miller sent a letter to the Department of Transportation in support of a $20 million TIGER grant that San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) was awarded for SR-91 corridor improvements. This money is being used to support the $1.3 billion 8-mile expansion of the SR-91 to alleviate traffic congestion on both sides.

The American Highway Users Alliance is a diverse coalition of businesses and non-profit organizations that fights on behalf of motorists, commercial drivers, RVers, motorcyclists, and all who use and pay for our roads and bridges.  The members represent millions of U.S. drivers who are troubled by the deteriorating condition and performance of American highway infrastructure.  We currently face a dire predicament as our major roads and bridges age — becoming obsolete, deficient, congested, and unsafe.
